A NOTE FROM DR. LOGAN

Because I believe in sharing the raw and real of my journey into motherhood, I’ve included all the details below about my story.  My story is my why for creating my business, Reclaim Physical Therapy & Wellness, where I empower moms to be well - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.  I never expected to have my own business, but when the Lord calls you to something, you LISTEN!

I prayed and felt the Lord calling me to change the postpartum experience for women to help prevent postpartum anxiety and depression after the birth of my second child.  I started my practice in January of 2020, and have now grown to include pelvic physical therapy, coaching, wellness programs, and 2 books.  I am so thankful you are here, mama, and can’t wait to get to know you!

Dr. Logan’s Story

Mama, if you’re struggling with your wellness, I can tell you that I understand. I walked around in “survival mode” for far too long, and was in denial about many of my mental health issues during my pregnancies and postpartum periods. I miscarried my first baby and had a difficult and stressful pregnancy with my daughter, Tess. Increased stress levels, weight gain, Braxton Hicks from 30 weeks on, back pain...you name it... I had it. I planned for a spontaneous, natural birth for weeks that didn’t work out as planned. Instead, I ended up with preeclampsia and an induction at 41 weeks, 1 day.

Postpartum came and I was so unprepared. I spent all my time planning for a birth that didn’t work out like I planned and I forgot to make a plan for postpartum. I experienced pelvic pain, insomnia, night sweats, anxiety, rage, breastfeeding difficulties and oversupply, relationship and body image issues, and suicidal thoughts. My health care providers and my family did not have enough information to get me the help I needed.

Throughout my daughter’s first year of life, I struggled with constant sleep deprivation and postnatal depletion. I found out I was pregnant with my son on my daughter’s first birthday. My son’s postpartum experience went a little smoother, but I did struggle with what I now recognize as PPA and PPD due to hormonal fluctuations postpartum and issues after placement of the Mirena IUD.

My period returned when I started weaning my son and I felt that mental fog I had been feeling lift. It got me thinking about how important the mind-body connection, hormonal health, and the motherhood transition really is. It made me wonder how different my story would have been if I knew what I know now. I felt a calling to give back to as many mamas as I can, to educate them on the postpartum and motherhood experience, and how to maintain their wellness ss they go through one of the most difficult transitions they will ever face.

I believe that the American expectations placed on mothers during the postpartum period are unrealistic and unacceptable. Many practices in the medical community regarding postpartum care need to change. We have been brainwashed to think so many symptoms are normal as a new mom. I challenge you to accept the mentality that many symptoms are common, but they are not normal, and they don’t have to be your new norm, just because you’re a mom.

I hate the stigma surrounding mental illness and I never want a mom to feel in isolation for feeling or thinking the way she does. This is why I share my story with you. I believe that taking a proactive approach for awareness and implementing wellness practices into our lives, we can decrease the incidence of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and improve our wellbeing as moms.

I’m praying over your postpartum experience and your motherhood journey and I’m so honored to serve you….We all know moms run the world!
